Rice Cereal

I LIKE BEING IN THE HIGH CHAIR
BUT RICE CEREAL

IS SO

OVERRATED

They say it takes 10-15 times for babies to get used to a taste. I think we are on try 10 or 11. Aiden's still not buying it. I've tried it thick, I've tried it thin. I even put some in a bottle so he could try a few sips- it was a no go. The ped said I could start trying single fruits and vegetables after a week of cereal. We may try oatmeal for a few days. If that's not any better we're goin' for the fruits and veggies. He's got to like something besides formula, right?

cooper NEVER liked rice cereal either. finally i got him to eat some pre-made stuff. the brand was nature's basket or something? problem is that it is mixed with 2 fruits so we couldn't give it to him until after he had had some fruits.

You probably don't have to worry about him eating rice cereal. Rice cereal is aimed mainly at breast-fed infants who may not be getting enough iron. Formula has enough iron in it. There are also other sources of iron, especially for a baby his age. You could also try mixing it with pureed vegetables (peas, green beans, squash, etc) or pureed fruits to make it more palatable if it's really necessary for him to eat it. Otherwise, at his age, his palate is probably ready for something that has some taste and texture to it!

Cute cute pictures as always!!
Love that happy boy!

So sorry you haven't been feeling so well.....glad you are doing better. And I'm so glad your parents are nearby and ready to help at any time! Aren't grandparents the BEST!!!!!

My two gals never did like the whole eating thing.....come to think of it...they really don't like eating too much even now!
So I totally know what you are going through on the food front.
But my two did LOVE their formula.
And they've turned out fine so far!
:)

Hang in there--you are doing just great!

Have you tasted the rice cereal! It's gross! Ben ate it for 2 days and only if I mixed in fruit. After that he was over it! Good luck to you!!

Sam was totally a texture baby. He still is very picky. He loved cereal in the jar, but hated rice cereal. Have fun!

Glad you are feeling better! There is nothing like being *that* sick when you have a little one to take care of. Yay for Grandparents! The pictures are adorable. I'd try mixing a little applesauce in with the cereal. That usually helps (and I wouldn't wait the full week the pediatrician said, but that's just how I am -- haven't killed a kid yet, though).

Get a baby food grinder and grind "real" food. Both my kids LOVED bananas. I mixed the mashed banana with the rice cereal and it was something tasty. I wouldn't eat baby gunk either! ;)

Teegen hates rice cereal but loves loves loves oatmeal. Aiden might like that.

Noah and Zoe hated rice cereal, so we didn't even bother with Colin. We just went straight to veggies. So far we've only tried twice and he isn't buying it. The same thing happened with N & Z. They just have to get used to it. Good luck!

Yeah, never really did the whole rice cereal with my guys. Not much nutritional benefit anyway, and the texture isn't very different from pureed veggies anyhow. Best thing we ever did with Jack was introduce veggies before fruit. I don't have much control over what Finley eats these days, and I think we made the mistake with Shane of bringing fruits in too early (before he developed a strong liking for veggies). But Jack LOVES veggies even to this day and will choose green veggies over sweets (not kidding). I really think that was because we didn't get his taste buds used to the sweet, sugary fruits before the veggies. Just my 2 cents.

Claire is not a big rice cereal fan either. She will take a little mixed in with formula now. She LOVES congee! I'm going to have to figure out how to make it when I get home.

I'm so glad you are feeling better!! Aiden gets more adorable with each post.

Jade and Liam both eat and ate it with mixed fruits and veggies. At least he likes the highchair, Liam hates his.
